What do we do?
Cotera is building the world’s first prescriptive analytics platform that helps businesses discover how customer behavior predicts growth and retention. Unlike traditional analytics tools, we automatically surface the most interesting insights in our customers data, and allow them to take action based on the findings.
Who are we?
Cotera is founded by Tom and Ibby, based out of London and New York respectively.
Ibby was the first data science hire at Peloton, where he built out their data team and infrastructure - he’s a second time founder and has years of experience in the data space.
Tom used to lead the data team for a B2C SaaS business in the UK and built much of the data engineering infrastructure there. He’s a YC alum and teaches a course on Software Engineering to AI researchers at Oxford University.
We’re backed by Steadview and Y Combinator.
Why work @ Cotera?
- Create something that lasts: We’re not keeping it a secret that we’re making quite a big bet here - we’re aiming to be the central platform for customer data, and that’s going to involve casting a really wide net - as far as business tools go, we want to make permeate every team at every organization. And as you can see from the fact that this is on a Notion page, we’re only just getting started.
- Exercise creative license: We won’t always have every answer, and the reason we want to hire you is because we think you can be the expert in what you’re good at — but the only way we achieve that is by making sure you feel comfortable making your ideas heard, and give you the liberty to test them out.
- Get paid to learn: We’re early, so we’re betting that you’re going to enjoy wearing many hats. With that comes the constant need to upskill, and we’ll give you time and resources to achieve that - all we ask is that you come hungry.
Who you are
- You should crave ownership: Remember, we’re not hiring you just for your experience. We fully expect you to take the things you learn from conversations in meetings with your team or with customers and come up with things to build because you think they will either (A.) make for a much better customer experience or (B.) make for a more useful product.
- You’re able to work with moving targets: We’re a fast growing company, we’re well funded and we have customers, but we’d be lying if we didn’t expect small paradigm shifts to our business this early in our path. Things are going to be a bit nebulous, and we’ll work together to cut through the noise and make sure we’re operating in an efficient manner that’s aligned to customer needs.
- You like learning: - The only way we can continue to grow is if our appetite for learning new things is large. Small companies come with their set of challenges, and scaling them is no small feat. This means that we can’t be hung up on certain ways of thinking, but instead making sure that we’re aligned on core fundamentals and coming up with innovative and new solutions to apply them.
- You move quickly and are outcomes driven: We believe that experimenting and taking risks to test new ideas quickly is the best way of making sure you’re learning quickly. Your goals should be to develop a hypothesis and quickly create a test in order to understand if it is correct or not.
